What is travel medicine?

Travel medicine deals with all health issues of travelers.
Or, more particularly:
  • Necessary vaccinations (if vaccinations are mandatory abroad, e.g. yellow fever vaccination), recommended vaccinations (vaccinations that are strongly recommended but not mandatory, e.g. hepatitis A).
  • Information on sources of danger, e.g. certain foods, bathing water, trips to the mountains, diving trips, type and duration of stay e.g. long-term stay or work abroad (G35).
  • Risk minimisation to avoid physical or financial damage on holiday, what mosquito repellent to use, what to look out for in the small print of travel insurance, where to get treatment abroad and who to contact abroad if you don't understand me.
  • Individual risks with already known illnesses or physical ailments

Do I even need this?

  • Please contact us without obligation, we will tell you whether your destination / duration of travel / type of travel / illness is a trip requiring advice at all, as this is by no means always the case.
  • In some countries the risks are often underestimated or risks are feared that are practically non-existent. The consequences can be side-effects resulting from the use of unnecessary medication, but can also extend to life-threatening disease progression.
